MICHELLE A. HANSON graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1997 and Bemidji State University in 1994 with a degree in philosophy.

After law school, she spent two years in Ukraine as a US Peace Corps Volunteer. She taught English language and American culture, and advised on nongovernmental organization operations and grant writing.

In 2000, she moved to Washington, DC, and joined the law firm of Dorn & Klamp, PC. As an associate, she worked on nonprofit organization matters, primarily contracts, corporate governance, taxation, and certification and accreditation. She left Dorn & Klamp in 2004 for an in-house position at the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Michelle worked as the Contracts Administrator at the National Trust for Historic Preservation from 2004 to 2007. She supervised agreements for procurement and income-generating transactions, many of which involved expenditure of Federal grant funds. Her experience at the National Trust gave her insight into the practical aspects of nonprofit operations.

In 2007, she returned to Dorn & Klamp as of counsel, and then joined with Susan Dorn to form Dorn & Hanson, PC, in 2008. In 2009, she became managing partner of Dorn & Hanson following Susan Dorn’s move to in-house General Counsel at the U.S. Green Building Council and its credentialing subsidiary, the Green Building Certification Institute.

In 2011, Michelle opened The Law Office of Michelle A. Hanson, PLLC.

Michelle is a member of the bar in Minnesota, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.
